How this calculation works
r = annual rate ÷ 12; n = number of months. At 0%: (target − starting savings) ÷ n.
Contributions happen at month-end. The rate is nominal annual interest compounded monthly, not an APY quote. A zero result means the initial amount and assumed growth already reach the target. Actual taxes, fees and changing rates are excluded.
A worked example
To grow $10,000 to $50,000 over five years at 0%, you would need $666.67 per month. The displayed result rounds to whole dollars; the downloaded result retains more precision.
Common questions
Can I use a 0% return?
Yes. This gives a contribution-only plan without assuming any interest.
Is this a recommended savings rate?
No. It is the arithmetic amount required by the selected assumptions. Check affordability against your own spending and cash-flow needs.
